Physical Education
In Clonmoney NS we strive to ensure that all children recieve at least 60 minutes Physical Education every week.
All students are taught 5 different strands (Aquatics, Athletics, Dance, Games and Gymnastics) from the P.E curriculum every year.
All teachers plan, discuss and strengthen the delivery of a P.E strand every year. This year we are focusing on Gymnastics.
All children from 2nd to 4th recieve swimming lessons and PAWS training at the Shannon Leisure Centre.
Our P.E equipment room has been cleaned and re-organised. All equipment has been inventoried and labelled. All equipment is checked for defects and replaced when required.
Our school has been teaching fundamental skills to the students since 2018. The school uses resources from the “Move Well Move Often” programme.
In 2018 we standardised our PE year. All teachers teach the same strands at the same times during the year. This allows us to identify equipment that is needed and ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need. It also allows for whole school activites such as our now annual dance routines!
PAWS Training
A huge thanks to Ciara and Bernard from Irish Water Safety for teaching the children about water safety and life saving. The children really engaged with the fun activities.
Games
We have no indoor playing facility in Clonmoney NS. We built an astro turf and hurling wall in 2017 which is an excellent facility for teaching the PE curriculum. It provides a space we can use when our pitch is unusable during winter months. IT is a safe space for our pupils to practice movements and skills required for small team games.
Dance
In March every year we focus on the Dance strand.
Yard Practice
Gymnastics
We have focused on improving our teaching of gymnastics under the Active Schools Program. We have focused on using the ‘Move Well, Move often Programme throughout the school with a focus on ‘Balance’.
